In October 2016, a meeting of mica stakeholders was held in the Netherlands, attended by members of the National Resource Management Group. They advocated for a completely new mica supply chain to eliminate child labour. It was unanimously agreed that the only way to succeed was to work together, which is how the Mica Initiative was born. The first kick-off meeting was held in Paris on 31 January, where a series of discussions were held on the formation of the organisation. Kuncai Technology actively participated and became a member of the organisation. On the 14th of November this year, the organisation was officially launched in Delhi, India with an ambitious plan with the following main objectives:
- Enforcement of fair, responsible and sustainable codes of conduct to improve the traceability of the Indian mica supply chain
- Promotion of sustainable positive change in local communities through the implementation of inclusive and comprehensive holistic empowerment programmes
- Creation of a liveable environment for local communities through close collaboration with the Indian government
